Meeting Minutes April 6, 2024

  3. Membership Drive Update 
    1. 2024 members: 82
      1. Mail: 45 and Electronic: 35
      2. Updated membership with addresses and contact information will be sent later next week
      3. Membership drive winners will be announced via email 
      4. Email receipts have been sent. 
      5. Handwritten thank you notes have been sent for donations over $100
      6. Planning for 2025: 
        1. Mail in membership applications continues to be challenging as the mail is received at Kathy’s Squash Lake Home  however Kathy is not present to receive and process them. Action Planning Tabled
        2. Awareness that membership dues to a non-profit could be considered a charitable donation for tax reasons. For this reason next year’s receipt letter will acknowledge that the Squash Lake Association is a non-profit organization.
    2. Website Update
      1. Tom has reserved the squashlake.org domain. Currently, squashlake.org is redirected to our current Shopify website.
        1. Discussion: Kathy manages the current Shopify webpage. The new website is a new platform. Should there be interest in utilization of the new site, there will need to be a new webmaster. 

Plan: Inform membership via the newsletter and at the Annual Meeting  seeking a webmaster.

Discussion: Suggestion from Tony that the Shed should be depreciating year over year. Russ reported the bill from Pelican Piers has not yet been received. Jeff reported the 2023 Grant Payment from the DNR has been approved but not yet received. 

 

  1. Education Committee Update
    1. WI Rivers & Lakes Convention April 10-12
      1. Kathy will attend Effective Digital Communication Strategies for Lake Organizations & Related Groups next Wednesday. 
      2. Marg attending the Convention as well

Report out: Kathy and Marj will share learnings at May 18th SLA Board meeting

  1. Summer 24 programs - TBD
  1. Fisheries Committee Update – Jeff, Russ
    1. Parasite discovered in wild Wisconsin trout
    2. Dale will complete the permit for the placement of fish cribs
    3. Dale will set up a meeting with the Fisheries Committee members to address strategies and next steps.

Discussion: Consider a map of the lake with notation of the Fish Cribs

 

  1. Finance Committee Update
    1. Grant approved for 2024, initial payment has been received.
    2. CBCW boat landing 24  
      1. Inspectors schedule for 2024 has been completed
      2. Board Motion to approve the hours for 2024

  1. Inspectors scheduled for training this spring.  
  2. Update from Town of Crescent regarding boat landing - Russ
  3. Per Crescent chairman, Rob Jensen there are 3 aspects to the boat landing. 
    1. Repair/replacement of concrete pads for launching boats
    2. Installation of a pier
    3. Repair/replacement of retaining wall. 
    4. The town is currently only pursuing item #1 this year. DNR Permits need to be completed. The town road crew will assess current status to see if any temporary repairs are needed,

  1. Social Committee Update
    1. Annual Meeting : Saturday, June 22, 2024 Russ will MC the Event
    2. Venue: Tony will take point on securing Northwood Golf Course
    3. Annual meeting Agenda will be approved at the May 18 meeting.  
    4. Agenda and meeting information will be posted on the website (May 20), in the spring newsletter and an email invitation will be sent.  
    5. Postcards will be mailed to all lake residents on May 18 (after the meeting)
    6. Signs will be put up Memorial Day weekend
    7. Kathy will gather door prizes
    8. Sample of Lake Signs for Homeowners will be available-Tony
    9. Jay, Greg, Leslie, Dale & Russ are up for re-election this year.  Greg and Russ have decided he is going to step back from the board, resulting in two open Board positions.
    10. Short board meeting after annual meeting to elect officers and set 2024-2025 meeting dates
  2. Social Events for summer 24
    1. Boat parade on Saturday, July 6.  
      1. Parade will be advertised in newsletter, email invitation, posted on the website, and signs will be posted in June
      2. Boat flag for 2024 parade has been ordered
      3. Judges needed for boat parade - Jeff
    2. Golf outing: further discussion next Board meeting
  3. Lake District Update
