- Lake Level Monitoring
- The Squash Lake Association contracted with WaterWays Lake Management Services to install a gauge in Loon Bay to monitor lake levels during the summer season.
- The gauge was installed just before Memorial Day and taken out in early October.
- 2023 was a relatively dry summer, and we appear to be in a cycle of decreasing water levels. Over the course of 2023, lake levels went down about .6 feet, or a little over 7 inches. Without the benefit of the gauge this spring, the lake appears to be down an additional 6 inches, but we’ll know by early June.
- The lake level monitoring data was entered into the DNR’s Surface Water Monitoring system. It will be used to create a historical record of lake levels over time.
- Many longtime residents of the lake recall a lake level cycle, with levels going up and down over time. However, there is no agreement on how long the cycle is. This data will help establish the length of the cycles.
- If you have any questions regarding lake level monitoring, you can contact Ann Kipper at annkipper11@gmail.com or Tom Eggert at tleggert@wisc.edu.
